National Guard Seeks to Strengthen Fighter Fleet Amid Cutbacks

Proposed funding addresses fighter jets cut from the 2025 budget and supports operational capacity and training initiatives.

The National Guard’s budgetary proposals seek to restore the Air Force’s reduced procurement of fighter jets, including additional F-15EXs and F-35As. With an unfunded priorities list totaling nearly $2.7 billion, the Guard is looking for funding to purchase additional fighters, as well as upgrades and resources to support its operational capacity and training initiatives.

While the Air Force, constrained by budgetary limits and has scaled back its procurement plans, the Guard emphasized the importance of expanding its fleet to enhance readiness and strategic capabilities, particularly in the Indo-Pacific region.

In addition to requesting funds for more fighters, the Guard’s priorities list includes provisions for acquiring conformal fuel tanks for F-15EXs, obtaining additional C-130J Super Hercules transport aircraft, and increasing pilot flying hours. Through these requests, the Guard intends to optimize its fleet composition, enhance operational capabilities, and address critical gaps in resources and personnel to effectively meet evolving defense needs.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For wisdom for members of Congress as they assess defense spending requests and evaluate national security needs.
  • For General Daniel Hokanson to receive God’s direction as he serves on the Joint Chiefs of Staff as Chief of the National Guard Bureau.
